I am from the UK and I want to know if it is really expensive to live to in Tokyo, I would want to rent a ‘very’ small apartment as size really doesn’t matter to me.

Well it’s good that size doesn’t matter to you since you’ll be moving to Asia! Ooooh, dang. Sorry, sorry. Anyways, yes, Tokyo is extremely expensive. According to Forbes, the only city more expensive than Tokyo is Moscow. And the third highest is London, so I doubt it’ll be too much of a difference. Know Japanese? You’ll be fine-ish. Not really the best time to move to a different continent. Good luck though.
tokyo has the worlds highest living costs i highly recomend you dont move their becouse you are on outsider and will always be one. and your room will be SMALL (ironic its in bigg letters then XD) but japan is a very expensive place to live if you want to live in tokyo i recomend you live in a different city and what you plan to do is a high issue seing as it would be very difficult to find a job there.
You can’t live in Japan without visa no matter how much money you have.
You usually need working or student visa to live in Japan.
For working visa, you have to get a job offer from a Japanese company. But you can’t look for a job in Japan without a visa. So you need it before you enter Japan.
For student visa, you have to be admitted to a Japanese college. You need to pay tuition and living cost for 4 years. It could be about $80,000.
Tokyo would be very expensive if you wanted the same thing as an expat all-expense-paid executive package. At the other end, Japan Student Services Organization estimates the monthly cost of living for a foreign student in Tokyo at 150,000 yen, which might be 1000 pounds.
What do you want to do in Tokyo, though? Work? Go to school? Working holiday? Missionary work? You need to be doing something to qualify for a visa that permits residency in Japan.
You need a certain legal visa if you are British citizen and would like to stay in Tokyo more than 6 months. Before considering the size of room, its rent and the cost of living life there, it is the most important and critical matter for you if you can really get such visa.
