I just put an offer for my first flat to rent in London, the agent put in an offer sheet, but it had 6-weeks deposit of rent upfront. I think this slipped by me (they also wanted a long-term contract). I think this is excessive when 1 month seems to be standard. Is this legal? Is there anything I can do about it? The offer hasn’t been accepted yet (haven’t paid deposit yet)

I would like to know if it is possible to rent a little flat or a room during a week of holidays, or if it is best to go to a hotel.

If someone knows a cheap hotel, could you tell me a way of contact, by mail for example.

And, about the transport. What is best? Zone 2 or 3?

I realise this is a long shot, but if you don’t ask, you don’t get, and having exhausted all other avenues, it must be worth a shot!

My partner and I (me 22, him 26) are looking for a 2 bedroom flat either within London or in the surrounding areas. We are expecting our first child this autumn and need somewhere clean and safe please.

We both work in Victoria at the moment so anywhere easily commutable would be a bonus.
Our budget (here’s the catch!) is around £900pcm or more if this is to include bills.
We can afford a deposit but anything more than 1month deposit plus 1 month in advance would be a big struggle for us. If you were to be flexible with a deposit this would a huge help for us.

We are working professionals and can provide references.

I am fed up with this so-caled profession who work for the benefit of themselves and the landlord. As a prospective tenant, my needs are at the bottom of their list. When speaking about my needs, they only wish to know how much my budget is, and then show me places more than that.

What I’m looking for is a site or forum whereby I can rent direct with limited risk to myself financially.
