How much per month does it cost a US retiree to live in Paris, France?

I am a single 54 year old Caucasian male who plans to retire to Paris in 5 years. I will be living on a fixed pension until Social Security kicks in. I will have some insurance through my former employer but plan to purchase supplemental insurance. I will also have a modest 401k to supplement my income. I plan to rent a one bedroom apartment and eat out as much as possible. I am also thinking of enrolling in University to work on a Ph.d. I already have a J.D. \\ What is the cost to rent an unfurnished apartment near the City center? How many euros a month are necessary to live comfortably?

I can tell you now if you rent an unfurnished apartment it may be more unfurnished than you think. Many unfurnished apartments have nothing in them at all, no sink or cabinets I mean nothing. Often times it is much better to get a furnished unit with a long term lease and you must have a rental grantee or pay 12 months up front. Do your homework on living in Paris.
