How old do you have to be to rent an apartment in New York City?

My cousin just ran away from home and he lives in Queens. He is 17 and doesnt know if he can rent an apartment. I told him he probably can’t but im not sure.

You can not sign a binding contract until you are 18 so very few landlords will rent to someone younger than 18.
