hi,
i am starting school in new york in September.
i was planning to go to new york in August and find rent (like a private room in a shared apartment)
my worry is, since so many students are starting their semester in September, it may be difficult to find a room in August.
is it easier to find a room like in june or july?
how is the situation like during summer?
thank you so much for your answer!!

New York is always crowded, rooms go for about $150 a week in places like Queens or Brooklyn, in places like Manhattan it would cost you an arm and a leg (Unless of course you move to teh bad parts but you will probably get killed anyways so why bother!), i suggest you start checking the newspapers at least two weeks prior to your move and always check out the place while carrying your security deposit (usually a week’s worth).
I think situation is the same all year long. there is no particular visible traffic increase. as long as new students come, graduate students go and that’s how, at least by logic, balance is kept. this apartments search could be of help for you if you look for apts in buildings and for overall general price overview of rental prices for apartments in buildings across the city.
