Should I rent or buy an apartment?

paris apartment rent

I am a 21 year old professional in the oil industry, income is £2000 – £3000 and I have no debt and £13000 in savings. However, I still live at my parents because I don’t have a secure location. The company might want me to move to Paris or wherever (Yet, I can turn them down and it will be for a management position where I don’t speak french and I look 18 years old). I just really wish to move out.

I’ve been single for a little while and I think the problem might be the ‘meet the parents’ about 1 week into dating. Anyway, enough rambling.

Pro – Buy house:

Investment and equity
Decorate it as my will.

Pro – rent apartment:

Gives me a lot of leg room to move about and break lease terms.
Don’t need to worry about my apartment while i’m on a contract.

Additional information:

I will be away from home for 6 months a year, on rotation 4 weeks on and off.
I don’t trust anyone enough to be a room/house mate and look after my property/apartment.

So, if you were in my position where you have a stable job and can live anywhere in the world, what would you do?

All constructive advice and insight welcome.

i really want to move to Paris when i graduate. just get away from home. but i only want to be there for maybe a year. you know rent an apartment and get a temp job. but I’m a freshman and right after i graduate i plan on taking a trip to Minnesota (i live in Tennessee so its really far) is there anyway i can save enough money to make that move? because i can’t get a job until next year and if i save 1000 dollars until i graduate i plan on having 800 to 700 after i come back from Minnesota. is that enough? would this move even be worth it?
