Am I wrong? Is my canadian boyfriend stingy?

rent apartment tokyo

Happy New Year to everyone.
Today I want to ask you whether he is stingy or I am wrong. Judge it, please.
Any opinion is welcome, as long as they have good heart to answer.
Sorry in advance, I am not English speaker, so it may not be good English.

(My boyfriend is Canadian, middle 30′s. He has his own business, always busy traveling.
I met him in 2008 late May.When we go out together, he pays all.)

I feel he is stingy.
For example when he calls me,
he will hang up the phone intentionally and lead me to call him back.
Some are after 7,8 seconds talk and hang up suddenly,
others are like one-ring and hang up before I answer.
Even after I told him to stop that, he continued.
Such things often happened.
That’s why I sometimes don’t like to pick up his call, it makes me feel bad.
Then it’s better to call him than pick up calls.

Another example, now I live in a kind of guest house (like dormitory).
No man admitted to enter even brothers.
Oh I must explain this first.
We planned to buy an apartment with a view to marriage in the first place,
it was in late April 2009.
He said he will get one in cash as long as the price is within a set budget.
That’s why I contacted a real estate agency, visited 8 apartments while he was in abroad to secure the fund for it.
Unfortunately he never came back…
He had postponed return date 4,5times even though he said each time
“Please believe me this is final”.
After several delay, he said he invested most of his earnings in business,
so we must wait till get funds again.
It was maybe late October or early November.
Then I suggested to him to rent an apartment for now, to start living together and get married.
You know, money is the first consideration to do something in real life.
So I told him to send money first for securing apartment,
then he started worrying about deposit and key money.
Of course I must avoid unnecessary expenses,
so I was looking for one with no key money and refundable security deposit.
Anyway he didn’t send money eventually, even after I found “No key money, No deposit” apartment.
It makes great sense to think he is not interested in living together and marriage.
What’s worse is that he started to say he will stay at my place in secret!
I told him that I can’t do that, you can’t come, because I don’t want to break rules and cause a thing,
so if we live together, we should make a contract for 2 in another place.
Then he said “That’s bullshit”, cursed at me and hung up the phone.
I was speechless.
If he’s a student, I can understand his remarks a little bit.
Why can middle-aged man say that?
The upshot is that he won’t come to Tokyo unless I all prepare the apartment for two.
I can’t help thinking he just expects a free ride, doesn’t want to spend money.

On the other hand, he keeps saying that man is meant to take proper care and responsibility of his spouse all the time,
also keep saying that his dream is to live together as soon as possible to start enjoying best marriage and family life with me.
(Almost copy and paste)
What is responsibility, what is proper care?
Marriage is not play house.
Of course there are various types of marriage these days,
But I am a quite typical and conservative Japanese-minded person.
I told him, I want to be a housewife after marriage.
In my view, it is husband’s obligation to take care of wife and children both mentally and financially.
We formed a consensus through discussions when I met him in Bangkok in mid-September.
He has been saying that he’ll do when the time is right. One year has passed.
Time is now. If someone doesn’t do it now, someone never will.

Honestly, I don’t know what he really wants to do with me.
If he needs time to stay single or time to work alone as in past years,
I can give him, it doesn’t matter at all.
The problem is this.
He has been always about to do, but has never yet begun it.
He’s all mouth.
To my regret I fully believed his words.
If I were man who’s thinking about marriage, I will introduce her to my family first,
buy or rent an apartment within few months at the latest, also set the date for wedding.
So, I can’t see any effort or forms of love nor seriousness from him.

How is my opinion very different from your countries ladies one?
Let me know.
Thanks for reading.

rent new york apartment

Is this true? How do students rent if this is the rule? Especially overseas students?
thanks everyone, ive been checkin out a few websites and they all seem to have things like this…

Financial Considerations:
It’s no myth that NYC apartments are expensive. Landlords are generally looking for a tenant whose annual salary is 45 times his or her monthly rent.

I’m moving from London and its completely scared me!! I just dont understand how students can afford this?? And cause im overseas its worse!!
Thanks again everyone
oh wow and to add, the website also has this…if you dont earn 40 times then you have to have a guarantor who lives there who EARNS 75 or 80 TIMES THE RENT!!!

I will be looking for some peace and quiet, but not the cemetry.
My preference will be near shops, restaurants, and sophisticated night life. I enjoy the artistic areas..
What would be the monthly rent for middle of the range apartments. not flea holes… Any helpers who can enlighten me??

An Ethical Question About Roommates?

rent apartment tokyo

Ok. My good friend moved to desolate hell hole of a town where she knew one person. That person joined the military and left. For weeks she was really unhappy and lonely. So, as school was finishing up and my lease was coming to a close, we had talked about me moving down there and splitting a 2/bedroom house or apartment until she got her finances together and was able to leave. At worst I thought I’d be in for three months.

Just recently my friend has gotten into a relationship. Great for her. She still wants me to come down and split a house/apartment with her and her boyfriend.

I don’t want to. I’ve had plenty of roommate experiences. Currently I’m living with five other people. But still I would never move in with a couple. Roommates are supposed to be autonomous and have free range over the premise. The magna carta of that arrangement is from the fact that each individual has one voice. But a couple is two people with one very strong voice.

So if I move up there I’ll be not only the third wheel, but also outweighed in every single house issue. As well, no doubt, as gaining the pariah status just for being not a couple. I don’t think it will work, and I think the parameter of the moving has changed. She’s no longer alone, she’s in a relationship.

I’m happy for her. But I wouldn’t live with a couple anywhere. Even in New York city or London or Tokyo I’d be weary to rent with a couple. Because you’re not renting “with” a couple. You’re renting “from” a coupe. And that’s the only way I can see it.

Plus, its not like I’m going to be hanging out with my friend. I’ll be hanging out with the couple. When he’s busy or running an errand then I can spend time with her. (Not even to get into why anyone would want to move in with a partner that quickly). So for many reasons I want to call off the move.

But ethically I feel bound by it. And my friend has expressed the desire that I come down. But the desire, as we all know, has drastically changed as soon as a boyfriend came into the picture.

Ethically. and pragmatically, what are your suggestions?

But again, this is a very good friend. And I don’t have a problem with an extra roommate. I just problem with a the third roommate being her boyfriend.

Critics Assail U.S.O.C. After Chicago’s Loss

By KATIE THOMAS, RICHARD SANDOMIR and JULIET MACUR

Published: October 3, 2009

This article was reported by Katie Thomas, Richard Sandomir and Juliet Macur, and written by Ms. Thomas.

For weeks, the United States Olympic Committee and the national sports governing bodies it oversees had settled into an uncomfortable truce. Despite a year of upheaval and conflict, the parties had agreed to set aside their differences in solidarity for Chicago’s bid to win the 2016 Summer Games.

The truce ended as quickly as Chicago was dispatched from the race won by Rio de Janeiro. In surprisingly frank terms, a number of influential people in American Olympic sports questioned the performance of the U.S.O.C.’s new management team and said its two top executives were ill-equipped to navigate the insular world of international sports.

Chicago’s last-place finish in the I.O.C. voting on Friday in Copenhagen was the latest blow in a year marked by the departure of major sponsors, layoffs at U.S.O.C. headquarters, controversy over the salary of the acting chief executive, and the failed plan for an Olympic television network.

“Before we think about putting forth another Olympic city for a Games possibility, we’ve got to deal with some outstanding issues that are not going to go away,” said Mike Plant, who serves on the U.S.O.C.’s 10-member board and traveled to Copenhagen as part of the Chicago delegation. “I think that certainly there will be some dialogue that’s going to take place in the next couple of weeks — or certainly in short order.”

Asked what should happen next to return the U.S.O.C. to prominence in international circles, James Ravannack, the president of USA Wrestling, said: “Resignations. It’s an absolute embarrassment. I don’t know what else to tell you. Where is the leadership?”

Patrick G. Ryan, the bid leader for Chicago, said his staff’s relationship with the U.S.O.C. could not have been better. He said regional bloc voting, not the U.S.O.C., caused the bid’s downfall.

“I think people look for an excuse when something happens,” he said. “They look to finger-point, and now the finger-pointing is at the U.S.O.C. It’s a simple thing to do the day after.”

Since the end of the Beijing Olympics, most of the top positions at the U.S.O.C. have changed hands. Last October, Larry Probst, the chairman of the video-game publisher Electronic Arts, replaced Peter Ueberroth as the committee’s chairman. In March, Probst and the board removed the chief executive, Jim Scherr, and appointed a board member, Stephanie A. Streeter. The executives in charge of sport performance, marketing and human resources were also replaced.

The turnover angered many leaders of the national governing bodies of Olympic sports, who chafed at the corporate backgrounds of Probst and Streeter and their lack of Olympic experience. The relationship further soured when it was revealed that the board had approved an annual salary of $560,000 for Streeter — a 30 percent increase over Scherr’s — months after 54 employees were laid off.

Probst has said the board will begin a search this month to replace Streeter, whose term as acting chief executive runs through next year’s Paralympics. She has not said whether she will apply for the permanent position.

Probst and Streeter, who were in Copenhagen, were contacted through their representatives, but did not return calls.

Skip Gilbert, the chairman of the Association of Chief Executives for Sport, which includes 45 Olympic sport bodies in the United States, said his members had been waiting for the vote on Chicago before voicing concern over the U.S.O.C.’s management.

“Now’s the time that we’re going to build some consensus as to what do we think is the next move in order to right the ship,” Gilbert said. One item high on the agenda, he said, is whether to recommend a change in leadership.

Several leaders in Olympic sports praised the Chicago bid as the best that an American city had put forward in decades. But Chicago’s elimination in the first round exposed the U.S.O.C.’s lack of influence. Steve Penny, the president of USA Gymnastics, likened the Games to a crown jewel.

“You’ve got to know that the people you’re going to be giving your crown jewels to are the most trustworthy partners that you could ever ask for,” he said. “And unfortunately, when you don’t have stability in your leadership, how can you build trust?”

Some wondered whether Probst and Streeter hurt Chicago’s chances when they failed to show up to a meeting of I.O.C. members in Lausanne, Switzerland, where host cities were invited to make presentations.

“You look back at it and think that it might have been a better decision for them to go,” said James Easton, an I.O.C. member who is on the U.S.O.C. board.

My fiancee and I are thinking about moving to Paris, but all I can find are short term, furnished cottages, chateaus, and flats. I’d like to find a website where I can look up long term, non-tourist flats.
